During the school year St Peter’s pupils take part in a variety of different events and initiatives to help those in need.
Carol Singing
St Peter’s pupils carol sing in Athlone Shopping Centre each Christmas to raise money for the local St Vincent de Paul Society.
Sale of Work
Sixth class pupils organise an annual Sale of Work in December. Pupils and teachers “do the donating and the buying.” Money raised has gone to a variety of projects over the years: Sisters of Mercy in Africa, Missions in South America, Westmeath Hospice, Haiti (UNICEF), Children Helping Children, Trócaire, Chernobyl Project, and Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.
Children Helping Children
All classes have a Children Helping Children mission box to which they are encouraged to contribute, as well as pray for the missions.
Shoebox Appeal
All classes participate in the Operation Christmas Child/Shoebox Appeal by filling shoeboxes with small toys, toiletries, pencils, crayons, copies, scarves, gloves etc. These are distributed to disadvantaged children abroad.
School Crew
The pupils from 5th class are part of our “School Crew” who play with our younger children at break and lunch times. Our pupils from our Senior Classes (4th/5th & 6th) often visit St Paul’s N.S to take part in Active Schools Week, Maths For Fun and Buddy Reading.
